Car collides with deer near Akron causing significant vehicle damage

On February 27, 2026, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a car and deer collision near Highway 3 and Dogwood Avenue. The incident occurred at about 11:47 PM. Deputies found that a 2013 Chevy Equinox had been damaged in the crash.

Authorities determined that Mercedes Barnes, a 33-year-old resident of Akron, Iowa, was driving westbound on Highway 3 when a deer entered the road from the south. The vehicle suffered damage to its front and driver’s side as a result of the collision. There were no injuries reported.

The estimated damage to the Chevy Equinox is about $13,000.
