U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a combat veteran, participated in a dignified transfer ceremony at Dover, Delaware to honor six servicemembers from Des Moines’ 103rd Sustainment Command. Among those honored were Iowans Sgt. Declan J. Coady, Maj. Jeffrey R. O’Brien, and Chief Warrant Officer Three Robert M. Marzan.
Ernst was joined by President Donald J. Trump and the Iowa delegation for the ceremony. Also present were General Randy George and Major General Stephen Osborn.
According to the official website, Ernst’s office provides constituent services such as casework assistance and helps facilitate interactions with federal agencies across Iowa. She leads the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and serves on several other committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
Ernst’s representation extends statewide in Iowa, offering services that include responding to public inquiries as part of her role within the federal legislative branch as a senator from Iowa. Her 2014 election marked her as the first woman from Iowa elected to the U.S. Senate and the first female combat veteran to serve in that body.
