U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee, announced on May 4 that Interpower Corporation of Mahaska County has been named her Small Business of the Week to celebrate National Small Business Week.

This recognition is part of Ernst’s ongoing effort during the 119th Congress to highlight a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. The initiative aims to draw attention to local entrepreneurship and acknowledge contributions by small businesses across Iowa.

“Since 1975, Interpower Corporation has been conducting business as a premium supplier of power systems for customers around the world,” said Chair Ernst. “Bob and his team have been powering up the Mahaska County community with speed and attention to safety, exceeding customer needs and exemplifying the American entrepreneurial spirit.”

Interpower Corporation was founded by Bob Wersen in 1975 under the name Panel Components Corporation. In 1993, Wersen relocated the company to Iowa and expanded its presence with locations in Oskaloosa, Lamoni, and Ames. The company continues to supply American-made power cord systems both locally and internationally.

The Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee supports informed decision-making on national fiscal priorities according to its official website. The committee also offers Congress comprehensive policy options on federal budget components according to its official website.

Lindsey Graham serves as chairman while Jeff Merkley is ranking member of this committee according to its official website. The committee contributes to congressional budget processes through resolutions and reconciliation instructions according to its official website, was established by the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 according to its official website, and provides nonpartisan budgetary analysis through oversight of the Congressional Budget Office according to its official website.
