WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted for, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed, the Regulations from the Executive In Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act of 2023. This legislation would reassert Congress’s legislative authority and prevent excessive overreach by the Executive Branch in the federal rulemaking process. It would also require every new “major rule” proposed by federal agencies with an estimated cost to American taxpayers of over $100 million to be approved by both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate before going into effect.

Additionally, this bill would preserve Congress’s authority to disapprove of a “nonmajor rule” through a joint resolution.

“President Biden has weaponized his office to advance his socialist vision for America through reckless executive orders and crushing red tape. Over the last two years, his rules and regulations – including his destructive WOTUS rule, his student-loan bailout, and his cancelation of the Keystone XL pipeline – have cost American taxpayers over $1.5 trillion, fueling inflation for our families and creating economic uncertainty for our small businesses,” said Rep. Feenstra. “As a fiscal conservative committed to limited government, I proudly voted for the REINS Act to end President Biden’s excessive regulatory agenda, remove power from the bloated bureaucracy, and restore Congress’s rulemaking authority. In Congress, I will continue to support policies that grow our economy, lower costs for our families, support our farmers, and help our main street businesses and rural communities thrive.”
