The inaugural Sioux City Inclusive Excellence Award was presented to Victor Diaz Galindo today in Council Chambers by Community Inclusion Liaison Semehar Ghebrekidan.

The Sioux City Inclusive Excellence Award recognizes a person who has demonstrated a deep and ongoing commitment to social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion. The award seeks to honor one person who exemplifies creating a culture of equity and inclusion. The award recipient may have supported students in bringing awareness to DEIA, challenged perspectives, created programming and/or more.

Profe Diaz Galindo has served as a Spanish Teacher at West High School, the advisor for the West High School LGBTQIA+ student organization, an Education Coordinator for the TRIO/Upward Bound program at Western Iowa Tech Community College, the LATINX community representative of the Inclusive Sioux City Advisory Committee, and as the Chair of the Inclusive Sioux City Advisory Committee.

During his time in Sioux City Victor has also lead programming and training efforts across the city, including on the campus of Morningside University, the Department of Corrections, WITCC, and the City of Sioux City. He has mentored and engaged with students throughout the area and created an extremely inclusive and welcoming classroom at West High School. We appreciate his positive impact within our community and wish him well on his move to Iowa City.
