Joni Ernst, U.S. Senator from Iowa and the first woman from Iowa elected to federal office, shared a series of posts addressing energy policy, government spending, and national security between April 6 and April 7, 2026.
On April 6, Ernst highlighted her support for E15 fuel, writing “Yes! E15 saves folks money at the pump. I will keep working to deliver permanent, year-round E15 so hardworking Iowans can keep more of their paycheck.”
Later that day, she criticized the high-speed rail project’s cost overruns: “The high-speed rail project is now almost $100 billion over budget. It was supposed to be completed years ago, but not a single rail has been laid yet. It’s time to bring this financial train wreck to a squealing stop. Even Gavin Newsom’s Secretary of Transportation”
On April 7, Ernst expressed gratitude toward military personnel involved in returning an American citizen home: “God bless our great United States military and the brave servicemembers who brought our fellow American home. Thankful for a commander in chief who will not leave an American behind.”
Ernst’s background includes more than 23 years of service in the Iowa Army National Guard where she achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom (source). She also grew up on a family farm in Montgomery County, Iowa—an experience she credits with shaping her views on hard work and public service (source). In Congress, Ernst has focused on fiscal responsibility and serves on several Senate committees (source). Her office assists constituents with matters related to federal agencies such as Social Security and veterans benefits (source).
