U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, representing Iowa, posted a series of updates on her social media accounts between April 1 and April 2, 2026, addressing federal agency reforms, government accountability, and support for military personnel.
On April 1, Ernst expressed appreciation for Secretary Rollins’ actions regarding the U.S. Forest Service. She wrote: “Thank you @SecRollins! This is the type of commonsense move I’ve been pushing for with my SWAMP Act. Now, @ForestService folks will be closer to the forests and grasslands they manage, strengthening operations and saving taxpayer dollars.”
The following day, Ernst commented on recent developments in COVID-era fund oversight. On April 2 she stated: ” A government official just pled guilty to stealing COVID-era funds meant for our most vulnerable. Kudos to @HUDOIG and @TheJusticeDept for their work to hold fraudsters accountable. This COVID criminal will be sentenced in May, but more are out there.”
Later that same day, Ernst welcomed returning service members with a message of gratitude: “Welcome home to these incredible men and women. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. “
Senator Ernst has served over 23 years in the Iowa Army National Guard and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel after commanding troops during Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to her official website. She became the first woman from Iowa elected to federal office upon joining Congress and was also recognized as the first female combat veteran elected to the United States Senate. Her office assists Iowans with various federal agency matters such as Social Security, Medicare, veterans benefits, immigration issues, and military affairs.
Born and raised on a family farm in Montgomery County, Iowa—a background that shaped her focus on hard work and public service—Ernst holds degrees from Iowa State University and Columbus State University.
