U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, a Republican from Iowa and the first woman from Iowa elected to federal office, recently addressed issues of government spending and fraud in a series of posts on her official X account.
On April 9, 2026, Ernst posted: “Millions of taxpayer dollars meant to house homeless people and fight fentanyl overdoses were instead spent on fancy houses, private jets, and even breast implants. LA officials didn’t even notice. I’m working on an anti-fraud package so fraudsters can’t jet set with your tax”.
The following day, April 10, she welcomed returning service members: “Welcome home to our brave @IowaNatGuard heroes. God bless our servicemen and women!”.
Later that same day, Ernst reiterated her stance against fraud affecting small businesses: “Fraudsters are on notice. Our small businesses are the backbone of our communities, and every dollar needs to be going to a legitimate business – not to another “Learing” Center. While @JDVance leaves no stone unturned, @SmallBizCmteGOP will hold fraudsters accountable for”.
Ernst’s focus on fiscal responsibility aligns with her background as a U.S. senator serving on multiple committees and running on a platform emphasizing budget improvements. She has served over 23 years in the Iowa Army National Guard, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel and commanding troops during Operation Iraqi Freedom (official website). Her office also assists Iowans with matters involving federal agencies such as Social Security, Medicare, veterans benefits, immigration, and military affairs (official website). Raised on a family farm in Montgomery County, Iowa—a background she credits for instilling values of hard work and service—Ernst holds degrees from Iowa State University and Columbus State University (official website).
