Joni Ernst, U.S. Senator from Iowa and chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, posted a series of statements on February 25, 2026, regarding small business conditions and oversight of COVID relief programs.

In her first post at 17:47 UTC, Ernst credited former President Trump for supporting small businesses: “Thanks to President Trump, the State of Small Business is strong and thriving! https://t.co/6QA2h24V3a”.

Later that day at 20:20 UTC, Ernst commented on federal pandemic relief efforts for small businesses. She wrote: “.@SBAgov COVID relief programs provided a critical lifeline to small businesses. But weak oversight opened the door to an estimated $200 billion in fraudulent loans that must be clawed back! https://t.co/DvkLrLz06a”.

At 20:50 UTC, Ernst called for extending legal tools for investigators pursuing fraud related to these programs. She stated: “Spot on @SBAOIG! We need to extend the statute of limitations so investigators can have more time to go after fraudsters who stole from hardworking taxpayers. https://t.co/QkhJ0axio1”.

According to her official website, Ernst’s office handles constituent services such as casework and facilitating interactions with federal agencies across Iowa. She leads the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and serves on several other key committees including Armed Services; Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Elected in 2014 as the first woman from Iowa in the U.S. Senate and the first female combat veteran in that body, Ernst continues to operate within the federal legislative branch while providing assistance with public inquiries throughout her state.
