U.S. Senator Joni Ernst shared updates on her recent activities in Iowa through a series of posts between March 31 and April 1, 2026, highlighting local businesses, community events, and leaders in agriculture.
On March 31, Ernst described a visit to a local ice cream shop: “Ending my day at Sunset Scoops was the cherry on top of a great day travelling River to River in Iowa! Open past sunset, the Schechingers are adding flavor to downtown Harlan scoop by scoop, giving families and community members a place to enjoy a sweet treat together.”
The following day, Ernst acknowledged agricultural leadership in the state. On April 1 she wrote: “Secretary Mike Naig honored leaders shaping the future of Iowa agriculture at the 14th Annual Ag Leaders Dinner. I’m proud to see my good friend and mentor @IAGovernor recognized for her outstanding service to agriculture!”
Later that same day, Ernst congratulated two entrepreneurs from Emmetsburg: “Congratulations to Sierra Elbert and Patricia Pierce of Groom Curriculum in Emmetsburg on being named Iowa’s Small Business Persons of the Year by @SBAgov! I’m proud to have previously recognized them with my Small Business of the Week! It’s great to see Iowa entrepreneurs”
Senator Ernst has a background rooted in Iowa’s agricultural community. She grew up on a family farm in Montgomery County where her parents emphasized hard work and service values. She later served over 23 years in the Iowa Army National Guard, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel and serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon joining Congress, she became the first woman from Iowa elected to federal office and is also recognized as the first female combat veteran elected to the United States Senate. In addition to her legislative work—often focused on fiscal responsibility—her office provides assistance with federal agency matters such as Social Security, Medicare, veterans benefits, immigration, and military affairs (official website).
