Joni Ernst, U.S. Senator representing Iowa, recently used her social media platform to share updates on various initiatives and policy positions.

On September 18, 2025, Ernst invited high school students interested in military service to an upcoming event: “Do you know a high schooler interested in attending a service academy and serving our nation? I’m hosting my Service Academy Open House this Saturday, September 20th in Johnston, Iowa.”

Later that day, she commented on improvements at the Social Security Administration: “.@SocialSecurity wait times are down and the agency is better serving the American people! This is exactly why I fought so hard to get federal employees back to in-person work.” The push for more federal employees to return to offices has been part of broader efforts by lawmakers who argue that in-person work improves government efficiency and public service delivery.

In another post from September 18, Ernst addressed concerns about federal funding allocation: “Millions of dollars designed to boost America’s national security have been hijacked for woke nonsense, including transgender apps. I’m working to end that now – my INNOVATE Act would eliminate all DEI in the SBIR-STTR programs.” The SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) programs provide competitive grants aimed at supporting technological innovation among small businesses. Recent debates have focused on whether diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) requirements align with these programs’ original intent.

Senator Ernst’s statements reflect ongoing discussions about education opportunities for youth interested in military careers, government workforce policies following the COVID-19 pandemic’s remote work period, and scrutiny over how federal research funds are allocated.
