Senator Joni Ernst, a Republican from Iowa and the first woman from the state to serve in the U.S. Senate, shared several policy positions and endorsements on her social media accounts this week.
On March 11, 2026, Ernst posted support for Senator Markwayne Mullin’s nomination as Secretary of Homeland Security: “Under President Trump, Americans have the most secure border in history. I’ve loved serving alongside @SenMullin in the Senate. He is a true leader, and I’m confident in his ability to keep our homeland safe as @DHSgov Secretary.”
Later that day, Ernst addressed broadband infrastructure funding by thanking an official with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and advocating for legislative action: “Thank you @ArielleRothNTIA for ensuring BEAD program funding is used responsibly. Now, these excess funds should be returned to the taxpayers. Congress should pass my RECAPTURE Act to do exactly that NOW!” The Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program is a federal initiative aimed at expanding high-speed internet access.
On March 12, 2026, Ernst criticized Democratic lawmakers regarding homeland security appropriations: “Instead of keeping Americans safe at home, Democrats are withholding funding for: Cybersecurity FEMA TSA Coast Guard It’s past time to fully fund @DHSgov!”
According to her official website, Ernst leads the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and serves on multiple committees including Armed Services and Homeland Security. Her office provides constituent services across Iowa such as casework assistance and facilitating interactions with federal agencies. Elected in 2014 as both Iowa’s first female senator and first female combat veteran in the U.S. Senate, she continues her legislative work representing constituents statewide.
