The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office announced on Mar. 16 that Simon Chieng, age 33, of Sioux City, Iowa, was arrested following a traffic stop in the early morning hours of March 13. Deputies responded at approximately 3:48 AM to a report of a motorist possibly needing assistance and found Chieng asleep in the driver’s seat at the intersection of Highway 12 and C12.
The incident is significant as it resulted in several criminal charges against Chieng, highlighting ongoing law enforcement efforts to address impaired driving and drug-related offenses in the area.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies woke Chieng and turned off his vehicle before identifying him. After conducting an investigation at the scene, authorities arrested Chieng on charges including No Valid Driver’s License, No Ignition Interlock Device, Possession of Controlled Substance-3rd Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Contraband in Correctional Facility, Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs, and Operating While Under the Influence-2nd Offense. He was transported to Plymouth County Jail with bond set at $7,500.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office said Mayrose Towing assisted during the incident.
