Rep. Randy Feenstra criticizes Democratic leadership over government shutdown in recent posts

Rep. Randy Feenstra, a U.S. Congressman representing Iowa’s 4th district since 2021, criticized Democrats in a series of posts on October 2 and 3, 2025, alleging that their actions during the government shutdown are harming seniors and service members.

On October 2, Feenstra stated, “Since Democrats shut down the government, Iowa seniors could lose access to vital telehealth services. That’s right. Democrats are denying our seniors access to quality healthcare to give free healthcare to illegal immigrants.”

Later that day, he added, “Democrats shut down the government to spend $1.5 trillion in taxpayer dollars and give illegal immigrants free healthcare. This liberal shutdown stunt prevents our troops and border patrol agents from being paid. Democrats need to be reasonable and reopen the government!”

On October 3, Feenstra reiterated his position: “Republicans did our job and voted to keep the government open. Democrats shut the government down to advance their liberal, progressive agenda of free healthcare for illegal immigrants and $1.5 trillion in new spending.”

Randy Feenstra has served as a member of Congress for Iowa’s 4th District since replacing Steve King in 2021; prior to this role, he was an Iowa state senator from 2009 until his election to Congress. Born in Hull, Iowa in 1969 and currently residing there at age 54, Feenstra is also an alumnus of Dordt University with a BA earned in 1991.
