U.S. Senator Joni Ernst announced on Apr. 13 that Port Neal Welding Company of Woodbury County has been named her Small Business of the Week. As Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee, Ernst plans to highlight a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties during the 119th Congress.
The recognition is part of an ongoing effort to showcase local businesses and their impact on communities across Iowa. Ernst said, “For over 30 years, Port Neal Welding Company has exemplified the well-fused entrepreneurial values of American small businesses. From creating industrial stairs, catwalks, and agricultural products to custom metal art, Dan Lee and his team’s commitment to high quality craftsmanship have welded folks’ trust across Iowa.”
Port Neal Welding Company was founded in 1994 by Dan Lee and has grown from a home-based operation into a significant presence in its community. Lee works alongside his four sons producing industrial steel products as well as custom artwork for customers who need repairs or fabrication services.
Ernst serves on multiple committees in the Senate and ran on a platform focused on fiscal responsibility and budget improvements. She made history as the first female combat veteran elected to the United States Senate and served over 23 years in the military according to her official website. Ernst grew up on a family farm in Montgomery County where her parents emphasized hard work and service according to her official website. She earned degrees from Iowa State University and Columbus State University according to her official website.
