U.S. Senator Joni Ernst announced on Apr. 20 that Sievert’s Furniture & Floors of Emmet County has been named her Small Business of the Week. The announcement is part of Ernst’s ongoing effort to recognize a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties during the 119th Congress.
The recognition highlights local businesses that have made significant contributions to their communities and maintained a longstanding presence in Iowa. Sievert’s Furniture & Floors has served the Emmet County community for over five decades, offering furniture, flooring, and home furnishings.
“For over 50 years, Sievert’s Furniture & Floors has been furnishing excellence by providing the Emmet County community with mattresses, recliners, flooring, and so much more,” said Chair Ernst. “Doc and Judy grew Sievert’s from a small appliance business into a chair-ished furniture and flooring company that continues to give back to the folks in Estherville.”
The business began in 1970 when John Raymond “Doc” Sievert and his wife Judy opened an appliance store out of their garage under the name Sievert’s Refrigeration. Over time, they expanded into furniture and flooring sales. In 2015, their son Jeff took over management of the family business.
Ernst’s office assists Iowans with federal agency matters such as Social Security, Medicare, veterans benefits, immigration, and military affairs according to the official website. She served over two decades in the Iowa Army National Guard as a lieutenant colonel during Operation Iraqi Freedom according to her official website. Raised on a family farm in Montgomery County where she learned values like hard work and service according to her official website, Ernst became Iowa’s first woman elected to federal office upon joining Congress according to her official website.
Looking ahead, Ernst plans to continue recognizing outstanding small businesses across Iowa through this weekly award.
