As Sioux City prepares to host the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) in July, organizers want to ensure area businesses are ready for the estimated 25,000+ cyclists and support crews from all over the world. This is RAGBRAI’s 50th anniversary.

Representatives from local businesses are invited to learn more about impacts and opportunities involved with RAGBRAI at a meeting on Friday, June 23, at 8 a.m. at the Seaboard Triumph Foods Expo Center, 550 Expo Center Drive. Donuts and coffee will be provided.

“It’s important for everyone, and especially businesses, to know our community will see a massive influx of people on or before July 21 through the morning of July 23,” said Sioux City RAGBRAI Chair Matt Salvatore. “It’s always a big deal to host RAGBRAI, but this year is even bigger because it’s a major milestone anniversary. We want to help businesses, especially those located downtown and along the exit route, be prepared.”

In August 1973, Sioux City first hosted the ride that would become known as RAGBRAI, as inaugural cyclists left from Second and Nebraska streets. This year marks the eighth time Sioux City has served as the starting point and an overnight town on the RAGBRAI route. The RAGBRAI Expo, food vendors, and main stage entertainment will be held in the Tyson Events Center and Long Lines Family Rec Center parking lot.

Sioux City locals are welcome to participate in RAGBRAI festivities, which will bring thousands of interesting people into the community. RAGBRAI L has registered riders and crew members from all 50 states and many countries beyond the United States.

Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City are the main sponsors for Sioux City RAGBRAI L.
