Two Sioux City School District middle school classrooms have shifted from in-person to online learning in response to the rising number of positive COVID-19 cases, according to an article by SW Iowa News.
According to the district’s latest report of positive cases, five employees and eight pupils tested positive. The two classrooms that are being shifted to online learning are at West Middle School. Rising numbers of positive cases have necessitated the shift of over a dozen classrooms to online learning since early September.
According to reports from the district, from Oct. 9 through Oct. 23, no classrooms had enough positive cases to necessitate moving to online instruction. That streak ended a week later when one Unity Elementary School class moved online.
In Woodbury County, cases have risen sharply for the last seven weeks, with over 8,100 positive cases and 102 COVID-19 related deaths as of Nov. 6.
