The Sioux City Environmental Services Division and Gill Hauling, manager of the Citizen’s Convenience Center (CCC), have worked cooperatively to add dates throughout 2022 for residents to drop off Household Hazardous Material (HHM). Located at 5800 28th Street, the CCC currently offers HHM collection each Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Additional hours will complement the existing weekly schedule.

Tuesday, May 17 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, June 4 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Thursday, July 28 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 17 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, November 15 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Accepted items found in the home include: adhesives/glues, aerosol cans, drain cleaners, enamel/oil-based paints, epoxy paints, flea collars/sprays, fungicides, liquid waxes, oven cleaners and toilet cleaners. Fragrance oils and essential oils are considered flammable liquids and can be accepted as well. NOTE: Latex paint can be dried or absorbed into a solid for disposal into regular curbside garbage for collection.
Accepted items found in the garage/shed include: antifreeze, lubricant sprays, automotive oils, malathion, batteries, mothballs, brake fluid, oil filters, gasoline, petroleum distillates, insecticides, solvents, lacquer thinner, transmission fluid, lighter fluids, windshield wiper fluid, weed killer and lawn fertilizers.
Recycling or reuse effort:
Household items listed that are in good usable condition should be offered to non-profit organizations, churches, or neighbors for their use. This effort can help in lowering budgetary costs for agencies. Additionally, sharing these items can ensure they are used completely instead of adding to the cost in preparing for disposal or potential environmental incidents and/or clean ups.
Used liquid paint is now available for pickup. Light colored paints are mixed in large quantities and may be used for primer. Ask for details if interested.
Local auto repair shops or dealers may offer recycling of used oil, old gas, or automotive batteries. Contact Best Buy for recycling electronics and Batteries Plus for a variety of batteries and light bulbs. It is recommended to call ahead first to ensure they still accept the items you wish to have recycled.
New HHM Service:
In the effort to acknowledge the sacrifices of our military forces, the CCC is now accepting damaged American flags for proper retirement through local American Legion Posts. Bring flags along with household items or drop them off separately.
