The Storm Lake resort was named the Outstanding Lodging Property in Iowa for the metro category, which includes all Iowa communities of over 10,000 population.

The Iowa Tourism Office hosts the annual awards during the Iowa Tourism Conference, “to recognize the amazing work and innovation by Iowa’s outstanding tourism organizations that have positively contributed to the experience of our visitors.” Organizers noted, “These awards represent the highest honor given for tourism in Iowa.”

King’s Pointe General Manager Amy Von Bank accepted the award, along with Storm Lake Mayor Mike Porsch. Von Bank spoke on the unique nature of the city-established facility. “We really have to thank them for their partnership. We are a community-owned resort, and we’re very blessed to have the forward-thinking of Storm Lake to build this.”

The award nomination cited King’s Pointe for its leading role in creating the new Storm Lake celebration, Kid’s Fest.

“We’re really excited about our next Kid’s Fest which will be this summer. We hope everyone can come out and see what makes Storm Lake such a great place to work, play and stay,” Von Bank said.

From the nomination: "The resort created a new event in 2022 to recognize its 15th anniversary, Kids' Fest, including rides, games, community booths, performers and free admission to its waterpark. The event attracted an estimated 1,500 children!

"The resort staff works tirelessly to promote its community and the state of Iowa as a premier destination. It not only operates a hotel and two waterparks, but the city golf course, mini golf, tourism cottages, a signature restaurant, and a senior citizens Dinner Date site. Many special events are planned throughout the year. Innovative use of advertising and social media promotes all that western Iowa has to offer.

"In creating new attractions such as Kids' fest, Kids' Zone, concerts,

comedy, holiday meals, waterpark events such as a College Night, a footgolf tourney and more, there is always something new to bring people to Storm Lake and Iowa. They go above and beyond in promotion every day."

The resort was also praised for its innovative and original marketing and social media; hosting of community events like a blood drive, RAGBRAI kickoff and community volunteer reception; recreation additions like rental kayaks and bicycles in 2022;  and innovation in developing new tourism markets.
