On June 28, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, which includes an amendment sponsored by U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull). This amendment directs the Department of Homeland Security to use money confiscated from drug cartels by border patrol agents to support the construction of the border wall.
"President Biden has overseen the worst border crisis in our nation’s history. Since the beginning of his administration, nearly 8 million illegal immigrants have crossed our southern border, with another 2 million evading capture by Border Patrol. Even known terrorists and poisonous drugs are sneaking through the cracks of our open border," said Rep. Feenstra.
Feenstra emphasized that his amendment aims to utilize funds seized from drug cartels for building the border wall to enhance community protection. "My amendment directs the Department of Homeland Security to use money seized from the drug cartels to build the border wall and protect our communities. The cartels don’t deserve to keep a single penny of the money they’ve made smuggling deadly drugs into our communities. They should be in jail serving time for their crimes."
