City of Storm Lake issued the following announcement on Oct. 25.
Recently, information provided by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and publically reported by media outlets noted that the City of Storm Lake’s treated water supply may not be safe. The information reported is based on the viewpoint of the EWG.
As reported, the story indicated that arsenic in the City’s water supply is 800 times the legal limit. Factually, arsenic may exceed what EWG considers safe. However, the City’s water supply is legally compliant with all federal and state standards related to the provision of drinking water.
It is the commitment of the City of Storm Lake to provide drinking water to our customers and visitors to our community that meets all federal and state standards in effect. Further, the City will assuredly meet federal and state standards as regulations and testing requirements are updated in the future.
