CITY OF SIOUX CITY: Update on the Fundraising Campaign for the Chris Larsen Park Riverfront Development

Fundraising event

City of Sioux City issued the following announcement on Aug. 12.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, the Sioux City Parks and Recreation Foundation released information regarding a fundraising campaign for the Chris Larsen Park Riverfront Development. We are excited to report we secured 65 new donors with donations of $27,278.00 and a pledge for $35,000 for a total of $62,278.00!

This fundraising campaign was established to support a grant application for the Iowa Economic Department Authority’s Enhance Iowa Fund in the amount of $578,144.00. As part of the eligibility requirements, the Enhance Iowa Board requested an increased amount of community donations to show and prove support of the project. The Enhance Iowa funding request is a critical piece toward closing our funding gap for the completion of the project. We are hopeful our fundraising efforts will be viewed favorably by the grant review board; however, we would like to make another request for community donations.

To make this process easier, individuals may now use a credit card and donate directly to the Sioux City Parks and Recreation Foundation through PayPal. Please use the following link and feel free to share with friends:

Our next project update to the Enhance Iowa Board is scheduled for August 20, 2020. Please make your donation by that date to show your support and be included in our update. Remember, we will accept any amount – no amount is too small!

Chris Larsen Park Riverfront Development - Phase 1 broke ground June 2020 and consists of the construction of a new public park on the former site of the Argosy Casino. The park project will include park spaces for small and large family/community gatherings, event spaces, active recreation areas for frisbee, flag football, summer camps, and enhancements to the recreational trail system. The park construction starts just west of Virginia Street and will include three park shelters, restroom facilities, two basketball courts, dog park for small and large dogs, active recreation lawn, gardens, native plantings, and play equipment for ages 2-12. The planned project is intended to fully activate this area with access from Interstate-29 and Downtown Sioux City.
