Cost of college went up for all students at Western Iowa Tech Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.7 percent for 2018-19 at Western Iowa Tech Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Iowa residents paid $4,272 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $72 more than the $4,200 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 0.6 percent more than residents this year, or $4,296. Their price tag grew 1.7 percent from $4,224 in 2017-18.

About 72 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Iowa residents. About 16 percent are residents of other states and 12 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 92 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 313 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.4 million and 322 students took out student loans totaling more than $1.4 million.

Including all undergraduates (5,674), 2,144 students used grants or scholarships totaling $7.6 million, and 2,316 students took out $11.5 million in federal student loans.
