Healthrecap

Cherokee Regional Medical Center issued the following announcement on Oct. 1.

Cherokee Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is pleased to announce that Dr. Nick Loughlin has joined the medical staff at CRMC and will start seeing patients the week of October 12th.

A native of Cherokee, Dr. Loughlin graduated from Washington High School and then attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with an emphasis in Theatre. Dr. Loughlin was also a member of the Cornell Rams’ wrestling team for four years, impressively earning Academic All-American honors three times during his collegiate wrestling career.

While at Cornell, Loughlin also had the opportunity to take a mission trip to Kenya. During this trip, Dr. Loughlin found his calling to pursue a career in medicine. “When I was volunteering in Kenya, I really had my eyes opened while helping this underserved population,” explains Dr. Loughlin. “Soon after that experience I decided to go on to medical school so I could help others in need on a daily basis.”

Upon graduating from Cornell, Dr. Loughlin attended the A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, one of the country’s foremost osteopathic education institutions.  From there he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. Earlier this summer, he completed his rural family practice residency through Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming.

Dr. Loughlin, and his wife Shelby, recently relocated back to Cherokee and are excited for the opportunity to live and work within Dr. Loughlin’s hometown. “Shelby and I are very excited to get settled into the community and focus on our careers and starting a family,” says Dr. Loughlin. “To be able to live and practice medicine in a community where multiple generations of my family have enjoyed professional livelihoods means a lot. I look forward to giving back to the community that has been so supportive of me and my family over the years.”

Dr. Loughlin will be providing a full spectrum of primary care services at Cherokee Regional Clinic (CRC) including family care, pediatrics, and osteopathic manipulations.  Dr. Loughlin has special interests in obstetrics, sports medicine, emergency medicine, and wellness through preventative medicine.

“One of the main reasons I went the route of osteopathic medicine is the wholistic approach to care,” says Dr. Loughlin. “I truly believe in treating each of my patients as individuals by listening to, and working with them to offer minimally invasive evidence based treatments that are best suited for their individual needs.”

“Cherokee Regional Medical Center is pleased to have an outstanding locally grown young physician join our organization,” states Gary Jordan, CEO/ President. “Dr. Loughlin is a wonderful compliment to the rest of our medical staff and a tremendous asset to the Cherokee area in general. We look forward to helping Dr. Loughlin build his medical practice, and watching him and Shelby become reacquainted and well established within the community.”

Dr. Loughlin is looking forward to reconnecting with friends and family while also meeting new people from Cherokee and throughout the surrounding area. “I welcome the opportunity to care for the residents of all area communities and want to make a difference in the lives of the patients I have the privilege of serving,” says Dr. Loughlin.

Dr. Loughlin is welcoming new patients and scheduling appointments beginning in October at Cherokee Regional Clinic.  Anyone looking to schedule an appointment with Dr. Loughlin, or any of the current CRC providers, may call 712.225.6265.
