City of Sioux City issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.

We need your help. Over the past few weeks, MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center and UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s have experienced the highest number of COVID-19 patients since the beginning of the pandemic. This is especially concerning as we approach the holiday season when the virus is expected to peak.
Immediate action is needed. The good news is, we have effective mitigation tools at our disposal. That's why we are asking you – as a business owner - to help us beat this virus. We are asking you to require employees and customers to wear a mask at your place of business to help reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in our community. To help support you, please see the attached Mask Up sign to display in your store front. We also encourage you share recent Facebook posts from MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center and UnityPoint Health – Sioux City to your business and personal pages to help raise awareness.
