Rep. Randy Feenstra, a U.S. Congressman representing Iowa’s 4th district since 2021, has used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its causes.
On October 18, 2025, Feenstra posted: "Democrats have kept the government shut down for 18 days just to give free healthcare to illegals immigrants."
Two days later, on October 20, he continued his criticism by stating: "The Schumer Shutdown continues. Democrats have kept the government shut down for 20 days to give free healthcare to illegal immigrants."
Later that same day, Feenstra shared results from his newsletter and addressed congressional pay during the shutdown: "In my weekly newsletter, 98% of subscribers responded that members of Congress should NOT be paid during a government shutdown. I completely agree. It's why I asked that my pay be withheld until Democrats decide to put Americans over illegal immigrants and end their shutdown."
Randy Feenstra began serving in Congress in 2021 after replacing Steve King. Before joining Congress, he served in the Iowa Senate from 2009 to 2021. Born in Hull, Iowa in 1969, Feenstra is currently 54 years old and continues to reside in Hull. He graduated from Dordt University with a BA in 1991.
