Crawford Creek County Recreation Area recently issued the following announcement.

Homeschool in the Hills: Winter Wildlife - Afternoon Session

Hitchcock Nature Center, Pottawattamie County

Area homeschool students and educators are invited to join us at Hitchcock Nature Center in Honey Creek for another fun filled program, Homeschool in the Hills: Winter Wildlife on Tuesday, January 6th at 1:00 p.m. Join us on a winter hike to learn about how wild animals survive winter & learn the answers to some important nature questions like: Why do some trees lose their leaves? How can our local chipmunks survive the winter if they don’t hibernate? Why do some plants stay green and living all winter while others die in the fall?

We will be hosting two program sessions, this registration is for our 1:00 p.m. Afternoon Session. To register for our 10:00 a.m. Morning Session return to the program list & select Morning Session. Our afternoon session begins at 1:00 p.m. & participants must arrive no later than 1:30 p.m. to participate. 

Online pre-registration is required & walk-in participants will not be admitted. Cost for this event is $3.00 per person for children age 3 and over, accompanying adults and children under 3 are free, children under 3 do not need a reservation. These programs are delivered in an all-outdoors, small-group guided format and are designed for elementary students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. 

*In the event of cancellation due to inclement weather participants will be notified via the email address provided during registration.

Due to COVID-19 the format of this program has been adjusted. 6-foot distance will be maintained between individuals/family groups

  • Masks required while inside and requested when distancing is impossible outside
  • This program will be held primarily outdoors
  • Staff will wear masks when 6-foot distance is not possible or indoors
  • Maximum registration has been reduced
  • Participants must sign a participation waiver upon arrival
This event is not pet friendly, please leave your canine friends at home. Service animals are always welcome. Please meet at the Loess Hills Lodge. Weather Permitting.

Cancellation Policy

Guests may cancel their reservation for a full refund up to 1 week (7 days) prior to the program date by calling 712-545-3283 and speaking with staff directly. Cancellations received less than 1 week (7 days) in advance of the event will not be refunded. Fees for programs cancelled by PCC due to weather or other circumstances will be refunded.
