Plymouth County saw a 6.6% decrease in households receiving food assistance since 2011

In 2020, 554 households in Plymouth County participated in Iowa's Food Assistance Program compared to 593 households in 2011, according to the Iowa Business Daily's analysis of the Iowa Department of Human Services.

This equates to a 6.6 percent decrease in household participation over nine years.

As part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's larger Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, qualified Iowans receive financial assistance in the form of Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards that can be used to buy groceries.

Since 2011, $19,486,341 has been allocated for Plymouth County as part of the Iowa Food Assistance Program.
