City of Sioux City issued the following announcement on October 19.
The Arena and the Miracle League of Sioux City have announced a partnership that will bring additional momentum and activity to Scheels Field, a $650,000 state-of-the-art all turf baseball/softball field located right next to Miracle League Park in Riverside. Scheels is the title sponsor of this field, stepping up for the community in a major way.
“We are so excited about the Scheels Field project and what it means for our Miracle League players and families, but also for the baseball and softball communities. We are especially excited for our partnership with The Arena to manage this facility. Dustin Cooper and his staff have proven themselves to be superb in managing sports facilities along with facilitating activities,” states Kevin Negaard, Founder of Miracle League Sioux City.
Kevin Negaard started this project approximately one year ago with a mission to build a second field for The Miracle League while bringing a turf baseball/softball facility to Sioux City that would be second to none. The project, the first of its kind in Sioux City, boasts infield/outfield turf, upgraded dugouts and some other special features that you have to see to believe.
“Kevin is one of those guys that is a dreamer. He is also one of those guys that gets things done – and done right. We are extremely honored and humbled by the opportunity to manage this facility for the Miracle League. Our goal will be to help promote the organization and spearhead event scheduling for this beautiful facility,” states Dustin Cooper, Executive Director of The Arena.
On top of The Arena’s involvement in managing the facility, the group’s nonprofit, the Hesse Foundation will assist in breathing life into the concessions area of Miracle League Park with some new offerings and an upgraded facade.
Mike Hesse, founder of the Hesse Foundation and local businessman will also contribute to the project with a generous donation. The Park that encompassed Scheels Field will be named Hesse Park.
“It is easy to get behind people like Kevin and organizations like the Miracle League. What they do for the community falls in line with our of providing top-notch opportunities/products and always doing the right thing. We are proud to be a small part of this project,” states Mike Hesse.
Scheels Field will be completed in October. The Arena and Miracle League have been busy securing events and activities that will fill Sioux City’s very own “Field of Dreams.”
