With abundant moisture and warmer temperatures, grass and weeds can grow at an amazing pace.
Green grass and leafy trees are a welcome change from the stark days of winter, but overgrowth can create problems. Please remember to keep grass and weeds cut to a length of under eight inches as required by City Code to avoid a nuisance situation and help keep our community looking its best. Grass clippings should be kept out of the street, to keep storm sewers clear and protect our lake.
Any accumulation of dead weeds or grass on non-farm property, exposed to public view, is considered a nuisance under City Code (except prairie, wetland, other native vegetation areas identified by an enforcement officer to present no nuisance.)
Accumulations of sticks and smaller branches can be taken to the Buena Vista County Solid Waste and Recycling Center, 1263 630th Street for disposal free of charge, during center hours – 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, and Saturdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The City will continue to be Storm Lake Proud by working to mow public open and parks regularly. We appreciate the public’s cooperation to maintain private properties in the community.
