Summer Reading Launches at Sioux City Public Library

The Sioux City Public Library wants to see you reading this summer so join the Library for FREE fun and opportunities to win prizes during Summer Reading from June 1 – July 30, 2022. There are a variety of ways to participate. Stop by a kickoff event or a Library location for all the information.

“Keeping kids’ brains active throughout the summer is important to their learning success, said Youth Services Manager Adrienne Dunn. “The Library enthusiastically supports families through engaging programs and exploring the fun of reading.”

In addition to the thousands of amazing books and resources at the Library, patrons can look forward to storytimes, reading to canine companions, family movie Fridays, visitors from the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center, a teen writing club, toddler dance party, an author talk, LEGO events and much more!

Summer Reading Kickoff Events:

During the Kids Summer Reading Kickoff on Wednesday, June 1, dance and wiggle to funny songs with singer/songwriter Duke Otherwise at the Morningside Branch Library, 4005 Morningside Ave., Sioux City. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. when attendees can chalk the walk and pick up their FREE Summer Reading Starter Pack and calendar. The outdoor concert will begin at 11 a.m. in Peters Park behind the Library.

The Adult Summer Reading Kickoff – Trivia Night is also on June 1, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Buffalo Alice, 1022 4th Street, Sioux City. Adults can join Library staff for FREE trivia and a chance to win books from this year's Summer Reading List. Learn about Summer Reading for Adults and how you can win great prizes just for reading this summer.

All events and participation in Summer Reading is FREE. Certain events require advance registration due to limited capacity. For more information on Summer Reading please stop by one of our Library locations, visit siouxcitylibrary.org or call 712-255-2933.
