A slow start never gave St. Ambrose a chance as the Bees fell at conference-leading Roosevelt 84-56 Saturday afternoon.

SAU connected on just one of its first eight shots from the field, that coming from Austin Born, and the shooting struggles combined with four early turnovers, put the Bees in an 18-2 hole six minutes into the contest.

Finally Ignacio Dacunda scored on a layup following a Grant Mason offensive rebound to make the score 18-4. The Bees (3-11, 2-8 CCAC) battled back and ultimately got as close as 27-22 on a Jake Friel jumper with four minutes left in the first half. Unfortunately, those were the final St. Ambrose points of the half as Roosevelt (13-6, 10-1 CCAC) closed with 11 straight points to build a 38-22 lead at the break.

The Lakers scored the first five points of the second half to extend their lead and the Bees never threatened from there.

St. Ambrose shot just 31.3 percent from the field and was out-rebounded 43-31.

Born and Dacunda were the only two Bees to score in double figures as each finished with 10. Friel scored nine points. Amarey Wills and Max Steiner came off the bench to contribute seven and six points, respectively.

SAU will return home to host Indiana Northwest Wednesday.
