Models and posters of local historic landmarks, people, and events created by 96 fourth-grade students are showcased in the 32nd annual Sioux City History Projects exhibit now on display at the Sioux City Public Museum.

After studying local history, 940 students from 16 participating schools made projects about Sioux City’s past. Projects displayed in the Museum have been evaluated according to their uniqueness, quality, and how they relate to Sioux City history. Unique creations this year include Archie’s Diner, Bob Roe’s Point After, Meier’s Body Shop, Shore Acres, Cargill Company, and the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce.

The exhibit opened on March 11 and will be on display through May 6 when students will be honored at a reception and awards ceremony. Again this year, the public is invited to vote for their favorite history project in the Visitors’ Choice Award category. Ballots are available at the Museum’s front desk.

The participating elementary schools include Bryant Elementary, Holy Cross School, Hunt, Irving Elementary, Leeds Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Loess Hills Elementary, Morningside Elementary, Perry Creek Elementary, Riverside Elementary, Sacred Heart Elementary, Siouxland Christian, St. Paul, Spalding Park Elementary, Sunnyside Elementary, and Unity Elementary.

The exhibit’s opening coincides with in-person spring school tours to the Sioux City Public Museum. Already, 23 schools have scheduled tours during the exhibit’s nearly two-month run.

The Sioux City Public Museum is located at 607 4th Street in downtown Sioux City. Admission is free. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, call 712-279-6174 or visit SiouxCityMuseum.org.

Opportunities to view the History Projects online will be available the week after the exhibit opens.
