WASHINGTON, D.C. – On May 15, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted for, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed, a congressional resolution recognizing the service of police and law enforcement officers and honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our communities.
“Our police and law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and communities. Today, and every day, I am grateful for their service and sacrifice,” said Rep. Feenstra. “As we begin National Police Week, I am proud to support a resolution recognizing the men and women in blue and honoring those who have given their lives to defend our families, including Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputy Austin ‘Melvin’ Richardson. In Congress, I will always back the blue 100% because they deserve our unwavering gratitude and support.”
This resolution explicitly memorializes the 556 law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty and whose stories were recovered in 2022. This devastating figure includes Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputy, Austin “Melvin” Wayne Richardson, who was tragically killed in a traffic collision on June 14, 2022.
This Congress, Feenstra has also cosponsored the Protect and Serve Act of 2023, which would create federal penalties for criminals who intentionally target, harm, and attack law enforcement officers.
