Sioux City Parks and Recreation would like to provide the public with an update regarding the climbing wall located in the Long Lines Family Recreation Center, 401 Gordon Drive.

Unfortunately, misinformation is being shared throughout the community regarding the climbing wall. In 2022, the City of Sioux City established an agreement with Whitewater of Charlotte, North Carolina for private management services for the climbing wall. Based on the terms of the agreement, the city agreed to compensate Whitewater an annual payment of $100,000 plus all revenue for management of the climbing wall beginning July 1, 2022, ending June 30, 2023. It was the desire of the city that over time the payment amount would be reduced. However, current operations did not support a reduction in financial support to Whitewater. Due to this financial impact, the city has determined it would be best to utilize the allocated funding, as well as offer services for the climbing wall, in a different way. At this time, Whitewater will continue to manage the climbing wall through June 30.

A town hall meeting will be held for the climbing community in the near future to discuss the proposed changes. A separate announcement will be made when that date is set. Anyone interested in participating in the climbing wall discussion should email Parks & Recreation Director Matt Salvatore at msalvatore@sioux-city.org.
