More than 25,000 RAGBRAI riders from around the globe are expected to stay in Sioux City July 22-23 and local hosts are still needed. The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) marks its 50th year next month and the popular ride will begin in Sioux City.

Small teams and individual riders rely on local hosts while staying in overnight communities. Most riders expect only a yard for camping. Access to a bathroom and shower is appreciated, along with a place to fill their water bottles. Recently, requests for driveways with 30 amp plugs for RV’s as well as indoor accommodations have been made.

RAGBRAI insures all registered participants. Local hosts should be prepared to shelter campers in case of storms or high winds.

“We appreciate everyone who has volunteered to host cyclists,” said Sioux City RAGBRAI Housing Co-Chair Francine Stewart. “More than 2,000 RAGBRAI riders have already been matched with local residents and we are so grateful for their hospitality.”

Sign up to be a host at ragbraisiouxcity.com or visit the “Sioux City Hot Shots Housing RAGBRAI 2023” Facebook page by July 1, 2023 to learn of housing needs.

Today RAGBRAI is the oldest, largest, and longest multi-day bicycle touring event in the world. RAGBRAI L kicks off July 22 in Sioux City, then takes cyclists to overnight stops in Storm Lake, Carroll, Ames, Des Moines, Tama/Toledo, and Coralville before ending in Davenport on July 29.

Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City are the presenting sponsors for Sioux City RAGBRAI L.
