WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) expressed his disapproval of the Biden administration's recent decision to mandate a significant percentage of new vehicles to be electric by 2032. The rule, proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency, requires 67% of new light-duty vehicles and 46% of medium-duty vehicles to be electric by the specified year.
Feenstra criticized the administration's move, stating, "The Biden administration’s approval of an EPA rule that essentially forces Americans to buy electric vehicles is just another example of the President’s reckless and misinformed regulatory agenda." He further highlighted concerns about the financial burden this mandate could impose on families already grappling with inflation, particularly in rural areas.
The congressman revealed that he had previously co-authored a letter with 140 colleagues urging President Biden to reconsider the mandate, emphasizing the importance of allowing American families to make their own decisions regarding vehicle choices. Feenstra concluded by advocating for the free market to guide such determinations, asserting that government mandates should not supersede individual choice.
