WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) cast his vote today in favor of the Equal Representation Act, a legislation that was subsequently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. The act proposes to add a citizenship question to the U.S. Census and aims to exclude illegal immigrants from being counted during congressional reapportionment.
Rep. Feenstra voiced his support for the legislation, stating, “Illegal immigrants should not be allowed to vote in American elections, and thus, they shouldn’t be counted when drawing congressional lines. For the integrity of our elections, everyone who fills out the U.S. Census must be required to answer whether or not they are an American citizen." He further added that these are not controversial amendments to current law.
Expressing frustration on behalf of Iowans over President Biden's immigration policies, Rep. Feenstra said, "Iowans are rightfully frustrated that President Biden refuses to secure our border and has allowed millions of illegal immigrants to unlawfully enter our country." He believes that by adding a citizenship question to the U.S. Census, it can be ensured that only American citizens vote in American elections and only American citizens are counted when congressional districts are reapportioned.
