U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra has expressed support for the newly announced High Path Avian Influenza (HPAI) Strategy by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins. The strategy is part of the Trump administration's efforts to tackle bird flu.
Feenstra stated, "I applaud the Trump administration’s announcement of its HPAI strategy to end the surge of bird flu cases, support our producers, and lower egg prices for our families." He highlighted key aspects of the plan that align with his previous recommendations, such as fair indemnity payments for producers, enhanced biosecurity measures on farms, and a voluntary vaccination approach aimed at preventing mass depopulation.
The congressman expressed gratitude to Secretary Rollins for her prompt action in response to the outbreak. "I thank Secretary Rollins for her rapid work and response to the bird flu outbreak and look forward to working with USDA and the Trump administration to bring egg prices down, stand with our producers, and prevent and mitigate the spread of foreign animal disease," Feenstra added.
Earlier in February, Feenstra led an initiative involving a letter co-signed by 22 House colleagues directed at Secretary Rollins. The letter urged the U.S. Department of Agriculture to enhance its efforts against the ongoing HPAI outbreak impacting poultry and dairy producers nationwide.
