Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a joint resolution to overturn a tax on natural gas production introduced during President Biden's administration. The decision saw support from U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra (R-Hull), who voted in favor of blocking the tax.
Rep. Feenstra expressed his concerns about the impact of the tax on American energy producers and consumers. "After four years of constant attacks on U.S. energy by the Biden administration, Republicans are working to unleash American energy production, support our energy producers, and lower energy costs for our families," he stated.
Feenstra argued that taxing energy producers could lead to increased prices and harm U.S. energy security. He said, "Taxing our energy producers is a sure way to increase prices, jeopardize our energy security, and give our foreign adversaries an economic advantage against us."
He emphasized the importance of encouraging domestic energy production to reduce costs at gas stations across America: "I voted to overturn a Biden-era tax on oil and gas production because we need to encourage American energy production to bring down prices at the pump – not actively inhibit it."
Feenstra further highlighted that boosting domestic production and cutting regulatory hurdles could decrease reliance on foreign sources like China, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela: "By increasing domestic energy production and cutting unnecessary red tape, we can lower gas prices for our families and reduce our dependence on foreign energy from countries like China, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela."
