Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Medal of Honor Act, which proposes a significant increase in pensions for Medal of Honor recipients. The pension would rise from $16,880 per year to $67,500 per year.

U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted in favor of this legislation. More than 3,500 Americans have been awarded the Medal of Honor, with approximately 60 recipients currently living.

Rep. Feenstra expressed his support by stating, “Our troops and veterans are incredible Americans who serve, and have served, our country with dignity, honor, and courage – ensuring that we can enjoy the blessings of freedom and liberty. Those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor have gone above the call of duty and taken heroic actions to protect their fellow soldiers and save lives. They deserve our deepest appreciation and gratitude for their bravery and humility.” He further added, “I voted to increase pensions for our nation’s roughly 60 living Medal of Honor recipients because it is the least that we can do to honor their service and heroism. As a grateful and proud American, I will always support our troops and our veterans.”
