U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra has been designated as a Federal Champion by the American Flood Coalition (AFC), acknowledging his dedication to tackling flooding issues in Iowa. This recognition highlights Feenstra's efforts in advocating for preventive measures and support systems following devastating floods in Western Iowa last summer.
“Last summer, our communities in Western Iowa were hit by catastrophic floods that devastated homes, businesses, hospitals, farms, schools, and other structures. Iowans are resilient, but the rebuilding process is time-consuming and expensive. It’s why I’m working to implement proactive and cost-effective strategies that help protect our communities, homes, farmland, and infrastructure from flooding,” Feenstra stated. He expressed his honor in receiving the title from the AFC and emphasized the importance of safeguards for land and property in Iowa.
Melissa Roberts, the Executive Director of the American Flood Coalition, remarked on Feenstra's valuable inclusion, stating, “AFC is thrilled to welcome Congressman Feenstra as an Iowa Federal Champion. His addition solidifies the state as the first with all members of its federal delegation earning this recognition." Roberts noted Feenstra's firsthand experience in aiding those affected by the 2024 floods, which will enhance efforts to safeguard farm areas and rural sections against future storms.
Feenstra, a member of the House Agriculture Committee and House Ways and Means Committee, has been proactive in enhancing flood prevention measures for farmers and simplifying the process of federal disaster recovery programs. He has introduced bipartisan policy proposals aimed at providing farmers with tools to manage flood risks and ensuring financial adaptability for Iowa families and communities facing recovery from floods and tornadoes.
Feenstra is now among 51 bipartisan AFC Federal Champions, including all members of the Iowa delegation, who are recognized for their commitment to mitigating the impact of severe weather and frequent flooding.
