Randy Feenstra, a representative from Iowa, along with the entire Iowa congressional delegation including U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, has urged President Donald J. Trump to act swiftly on a request for federal disaster assistance from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. This plea follows severe weather on March 19, which brought high winds and blizzard conditions to areas of west, central, and northwest Iowa, leading to significant damage to infrastructure and properties.
A letter from the delegation underscores the severity of the situation: “The Governor has determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and affected local governments, and supplementary federal assistance is necessary. Thank you for your prompt consideration of this important request.”
Governor Reynolds is seeking Hazard Mitigation across all state areas and the activation of Public Assistance programs specifically for Crawford, Harrison, Monona, and Woodbury counties.
The full letter addressed to President Trump states, "We respectfully ask that you promptly grant the request made by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for a major disaster declaration for the State of Iowa as a result of severe weather on March 19, 2025, that produced high winds and blizzard conditions across much of west central and northwest Iowa. This severe weather caused significant damage to public infrastructure and private property."
