U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra, along with other lawmakers, is urging the Trump administration to approve the nationwide sale of E-15 fuel during the summer months. In a bipartisan letter to President Donald Trump, Feenstra, together with U.S. Reps. Adrian Smith and Angie Craig, requested an extension of the Reid vapor pressure (RVP) waiver from June 1 through September 15, 2025.

The lawmakers emphasized the importance of "preserving the home-grown, affordable option higher ethanol blends provide." They argue that extending the sale of E-15 can support the nation's energy resilience by contributing significantly to the fuel supply while potentially lowering gas prices for American families.

Feenstra has previously advocated for homegrown Iowa biofuels as part of the Trump administration's strategy for energy dominance. He has also worked consistently in Congress to make E-15 available year-round and nationwide at gas stations.

The letter highlights previous actions by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which in the years 2022 through 2024, authorized the year-round sale of E-15 through temporary waivers. These waivers were intended to keep the U.S. energy supply chain resilient despite international conflicts.

To support the energy supply, the lawmakers argue for "preserving flexibility in our domestic energy production and supply through this emergency waiver." They note that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine exacerbates global energy challenges, making this request timely and critical.

The move to allow the nationwide sale of E-15 during the 2025 summer season aligns with petitions by eight Midwestern governors and has garnered support from both ethanol and petroleum stakeholders. The lawmakers suggest that granting this waiver would provide benefits for consumers, the energy industry, and agricultural producers.

The letter concludes by urging the administration to issue a nationwide waiver for E-15 sales in the summer of 2025 as a measure to address ongoing challenges in the energy supply chain.
