U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra of Hull has cast his vote in favor of the Jeremy and Angel Seay and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act. The legislation, which was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, aims to prevent illegal immigrants who have committed or been convicted of drunk driving offenses from entering the United States. Additionally, it establishes DUI as a deportable offense.

Rep. Feenstra highlighted statistics from the Iowa Department of Public Safety indicating that "35% of Iowa’s fatal car accidents involved an impaired driver in 2022." He stated, “It’s why I voted to deport illegal immigrants convicted of driving while drunk so that we keep our kids, law enforcement officers, and communities safe.” He referenced a 2016 incident involving an illegal immigrant who killed Sarah Root, a 21-year-old Iowan, while driving under the influence.

Earlier this year, President Trump signed into law the Laken Riley Act, which incorporates Feenstra's bill known as Sarah's Law. This legislation mandates detention without bail for illegal immigrants who harm or kill American citizens.
