Senator Joni Ernst, representing Iowa, posted a series of tweets on July 30, 2025, highlighting concerns about cost overruns and delays in major federal projects.

In her first post, Ernst drew attention to the rising costs associated with new presidential aircraft: "The cost of two new Air Force One jets has increased from $3.9 billion to $5.6 billion! The project was expected to land in 2024, but arrival is now delayed until 2029." (July 30, 2025).

She continued by criticizing the renovation expenses at the Federal Reserve: "You can't ignore the 'Taj Mahal on the National Mall' renovation at the Fed that has soared from $1.9 billion to $3.1 billion. The contractors renovating the Federal Reserve must be laughing all the way to the bank." (July 30, 2025).

Ernst concluded her remarks by advocating for increased transparency regarding large-scale government spending: "Taxpayers deserve a comprehensive report like this every year to hold Washington accountable. My Billion Dollar Boondoggle Act ensures that all government projects $1 billion over budget or five years behind schedule will automatically be publicized." (July 30, 2025).

Senator Ernst's comments come amid ongoing debates about federal project management and accountability in Washington. Her legislative proposal aims to mandate disclosure for any government initiative exceeding $1 billion over budget or delayed by more than five years.
