Senator Joni Ernst, representing Iowa, has recently posted several updates on her official Twitter account regarding agriculture policy, rural development appointments, and recognition of veterans.

On August 8, 2025, Ernst reiterated her ongoing support for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), a federal program that mandates blending renewable fuels with gasoline. She stated: "I’ve long fought for the Renewable Fuel Standard which supports Iowa’s biofuel producers while lowering costs at the pump and reducing our reliance on foreign oil. Over the last 20 years, the RFS has been essential to empowering heartland communities. Iowa farmers already feed".

The following day, August 9, 2025, Ernst congratulated Glen Smith on his nomination as Under Secretary for Rural Development at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In her post she wrote: "Congratulations to my good friend and fellow Iowan, Glen Smith, on his nomination to serve as Under Secretary for Rural Development @USDA. As someone with a lifelong commitment to agriculture, I have no doubt he will represent Iowans and all of rural America well."

On August 10, 2025, Ernst shared an experience from her hometown of Red Oak: "It was an honor to present a flag to one of Iowa's own World War II veterans this afternoon in my hometown of Red Oak. Thank you, Mr. Hays for your valiant service to our country. We are the land of the free because of the brave. "

The Renewable Fuel Standard has played a significant role in supporting agricultural economies in states like Iowa by requiring transportation fuel sold in the United States to contain a minimum volume of renewable fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel. This policy is seen as beneficial not only for farmers but also for energy diversification efforts nationwide.

Glen Smith’s nomination comes at a time when leadership roles at USDA are critical for implementing policies that affect rural communities across America.

Senator Ernst’s presentation of a flag honors local veterans’ contributions during World War II—a practice that reflects broader national efforts to recognize military service.
