Senator Joni Ernst, a Republican representing Iowa, recently addressed issues of government spending and Middle East policy in a series of posts on her official X (formerly Twitter) account.

On September 12, 2025, Ernst posted concerns about the use of taxpayer funds by federal employees. She wrote, "Taxpayers should never foot the bill for bureaucrats to swipe away at casinos, night clubs, and bars. It is long past time to DECLINE these absurd payments and ensure that when federal employees stop working, their taxpayer-funded credit cards do too. ". Later that day, she reiterated her stance with another post: "SQUEAL REEL: Time to cut the card! ".

On September 15, 2025, Senator Ernst commented on foreign policy in the Middle East. She stated, "Iran is the common thread behind Middle East conflict. Just like President Trump did with the Abraham Accords, he continues to work to bring the Middle East together – united against the threat of Iran."

The issue of improper government credit card use has drawn scrutiny from lawmakers in recent years. Reports have documented instances where federal employees misused government-issued charge cards for personal expenses at establishments such as casinos and bars. Congressional efforts have focused on tightening oversight and implementing reforms aimed at curbing these abuses.

Regarding foreign policy, Iran's involvement in regional conflicts remains a subject of debate among U.S. officials and international observers. The Abraham Accords—brokered under President Donald Trump's administration—were agreements aimed at normalizing relations between Israel and several Arab states as part of broader efforts to stabilize the region.
