U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted in favor of the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act, which was passed by the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday. The bill aims to establish a pathway for Medicare to cover multi-cancer early detection screenings, pending approval from the Food and Drug Administration.

Feenstra stated, “Receiving a cancer diagnosis is devastating news for patients and can be confusing and scary for families and loved ones. However, through new advancements in medicine and early detection, there is real hope for recovery.” He added, “It’s why, as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, I voted to expand early detection screenings for many types of cancer so that we can catch cancer early when it is most treatable. This legislation will help our seniors receive the routine screenings and early tests that truly save lives.”

Feenstra has represented Iowa’s 4th district in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Steve King. Before his election to Congress, he served in the Iowa Senate from 2009 to 2021. Feenstra was born in Hull, Iowa in 1969 and continues to reside there. He graduated from Dordt University with a bachelor’s degree in 1991.
